Highlights From 50 Years Of Theatre Going: A Journey Through Time and Emotion
I have been going to the theatre for as long as I can remember. My parents took me to my first show when I was four years old, and I was immediately hooked. I loved the magic of live performance, the way it could transport me to another world and make me feel things I never thought possible.

Over the years, I have seen hundreds of shows, from small Fringe productions to big Broadway musicals. I have seen some of the greatest actors and actresses of our time, and I have experienced some of the most memorable moments of my life in the theatre.
Here are a few of the highlights from my 50 years of theatre going:
- Waiting for Godot (1956): This was the first play I ever saw, and it remains one of my all-time favorites. It is a strange and beautiful play about two men who are waiting for someone who never arrives. The play is full of absurdist humor and existential angst, but it is also deeply moving and humane.
- Hair (1967): This was the first Broadway show I ever saw, and it was a life-changing experience. The show was a celebration of the counterculture movement, and it featured some of the most iconic songs of the era. I was blown away by the energy and passion of the cast, and I left the theatre feeling like I had witnessed something truly special.
- Angels in America (1993): This two-part play by Tony Kushner is one of the most important works of theatre of the 20th century. It is a sprawling and ambitious work that tackles themes of love, loss, AIDS, and the American Dream. The play is a masterpiece of storytelling, and it is one of the most powerful and moving theatre experiences I have ever had.
- The Book of Mormon (2011): This musical by Trey Parker and Matt Stone is one of the funniest shows I have ever seen. It is a satire of Mormonism, but it is also a surprisingly heartwarming story about two young missionaries who find their faith tested. The show is full of clever lyrics and memorable characters, and it is sure to leave you laughing.
- Hamilton (2015): This musical by Lin-Manuel Miranda is a groundbreaking work of art. It tells the story of Alexander Hamilton, one of the founding fathers of the United States. The show is a blend of hip-hop, R&B, and traditional Broadway music, and it is one of the most successful musicals in history. I was lucky enough to see it on Broadway, and it was an unforgettable experience.
These are just a few of the highlights from my 50 years of theatre going. I am grateful for the opportunity to have experienced so many incredible shows, and I am excited to see what the next 50 years will bring.
The theatre is a powerful medium that can entertain, educate, and inspire. It can make us laugh, cry, and think. It can bring us together as a community and help us to understand the world around us.
If you have never been to the theatre, I encourage you to give it a try. You may just find that it is a life-changing experience.
