Imagine living and working on a street that was once known as the most dangerous in Europe. A street where car bombs and shootings were a daily occurrence. A street where people were killed simply for their religion or political beliefs.

That's what it was like to live and work on the Belfast Murder Mile during The Troubles.

The Belfast Murder Mile is a stretch of road in Belfast, Northern Ireland, that was notorious for its violence during The Troubles. The conflict, which lasted from the late 1960s to the late 1990s, was a period of intense sectarian violence between Protestants and Catholics in Northern Ireland.

The Murder Mile was a particularly dangerous area during The Troubles. It was the site of numerous car bombings, shootings, and other acts of violence. In 1972, for example, a car bomb exploded on the Murder Mile, killing nine people and injuring dozens more.

Despite the violence, people continued to live and work on the Murder Mile. One of those people was a woman named Mairead Maguire. Maguire was a peace activist who worked tirelessly to end The Troubles. She co-founded the Peace People, a non-violent movement that worked to bring Protestants and Catholics together.

Maguire's work on the Murder Mile was dangerous. She was often threatened and harassed by both Protestants and Catholics. But she never gave up on her dream of peace.

In 1976, Maguire was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for her work. She continued to work for peace in Northern Ireland until her death in 2021.

Today, the Belfast Murder Mile is a very different place. The violence has ended, and the street is now a thriving area with shops, restaurants, and bars. But the legacy of The Troubles remains.

The Belfast Murder Mile is a reminder of the horrors of war. It is also a reminder of the power of peace. Maguire's story is an inspiration to us all. It shows us that even in the darkest of times, there is always hope for peace.

Here are some tips for living and working as a pacifist on Belfast Murder Mile:

  • Be aware of your surroundings and be careful about who you talk to.
  • Don't be afraid to speak out against violence and injustice.
  • Work with others to build a more just and peaceful society.
  • Never give up on your dream of peace.

The Belfast Murder Mile is a powerful reminder of the horrors of war and the power of peace. It is a place of hope and healing, and it is a place where people can come together to build a better future.
