The Birth of a Soldier

Buddy's journey began in 1904, when Margarete Steiff, the founder of the renowned toy company Steiff, created a small teddy bear named "Teddy" in honor of President Theodore Roosevelt's beloved toy bear.

In 1914, when World War I broke out, the British War Office commissioned Steiff to produce a version of Teddy specifically for soldiers. The resulting bear, known as Buddy, was made from sturdy mohair and featured a soldier's uniform complete with a cap, tunic, and boots.

Buddy Today
